An investigation into an incident in Hawkeye, has resulted in two Oelwein men being charged for drug and other offenses.


On May 20th, the Fayette County Sheriff got a report of a man who appeared at a residence in Hawkeye, brandishing an assault rifle at a group of people.
The suspect was identified, and on Thursday, May 24th, 22 year old Mathew Fowlkes was taken into custody for Going Armed with Intent and Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree.

That same day, the sheriff executed 3 search warrants on 2 vehicles and a residence on West Charles Street in Oelwein. Deputies seized 2 firearms, including one that was used to intimidate several people in Hawkeye.

Deputies also noticed evidence of drug trafficking, and obtained another warrant for the residence. Deputies recovered a large amount of marijuana, a large sum of cash, and evidence of the sale of narcotics.

24 year old Domanick Fowlkes was then charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell. A warrant for Domanick was requested for his arrest, as he was not at the residence at the time of the search.

Mathew then received a third charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell.

Mathew Fowlkes is being held in the Fayette County jail on $30,000 cash bond.

The Oelwein Police Department assisted the sheriff in the searches.
