By a one vote margin, the Senate failed to approve construction of the Keystone XL pipeline Tuesday. The bill was defeated with 59 votes in favor and 41 against, needing 60 votes to proceed. The measure was approved by the U.S. House last week. Reuters reports Had the bill passed, it would likely have been vetoed by President Barack Obama. If it would gain approval, TransCanada Corp's $8 billion pipeline would help transport crude oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
