A couple of empty barges in Prairie du Chien did some damage when high winds over the weekend pulled them free.

This happened Sunday morning (Oct. 28) on the slough that runs parallel to the Mississippi River, along the east side of St.Feriole Island.

Winds, which were clocked at up to nearly 40 miles an hour, pulled 2 empty barges from their moorings, near the grain terminal at Dillman's pit.

The wind pushed the big vessels into several docks down the slough, causing considerable damage, but no injuries.

There was no damage to the nearby Washington Street bridge.
