Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and death of a Grundy Center man, whose body was found in rural Floyd County late last week.

Iowa Department of Public Safety officials confirmed the body of Michael Johns, 28, was discovered on Friday (Dec. 1, 2017). The body was positively identified during an autopsy on Saturday, investigators said.

According to Floyd County sheriff’s officials, the body was found near 290th St. and Shadow Ave. about 10 miles south of Charles City. The discovery was made in an area where law enforcement had previously requested the public’s assistance in finding Johns, who was reported as a missing person to Grundy Center police on Oct. 26.

Johns' death has been ruled a homicide by Dr. Dennis Klein, the state medical who performed the autopsy. Investigators have not yet released the cause of Johns' death, citing the nature of the on-going probe.

Floyd County and Grundy County sheriff’s officials are assisting the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation with the case.
