WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — A groundbreaking ceremony for a new $3.6 million Waverly Area Veterans Post will be held this week at the former site of the Waverly VFW post.

The ceremony will be held at noon Wednesday.

The 17,300-square-foot facility will serve as a home for the Waverly Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, AMVETS and the local Marine Corps League. Individuals from each group sit on the WAVP board of directors.

Plans for the two-level facility include Internet access and online video service for active service members' families to communicate with them. Veterans will also be able to apply for benefits, jobs, educational opportunities and other services at the post.

The facility also would be available to the public for dinners, weddings, parties and reunions.
