General Mills Makes Huge Changes to Maternity Leave Policies
General Mills is now one of the top companies for maternity and paternity leave.
Starting in 2019, new mothers who work for the General Mills company will be able to receive up to 20 weeks of maternity leave with 100% pay. In addition to that, new fathers will be able to take up to 12 weeks of paid paternity leave.
This puts General Mills as one of the best maternity and paternity leave companies in the US. The 20 weeks that new mothers get is almost double of the national average of 12 weeks.
Chief Human Resources Officer at General Mills, Jacqueline Williams-Roll said in a press release, "We spent a lot of time talking with employees at different life stages and asking questions about their pain points and what contributes to feeling torn between work and home. Out of those discussions, we developed a strategy to focus on these moments when employees really need support the most. "
Hopefully other companies follow suit and allow for more time off for new parents and raise that national average of 12 weeks.
