A Waterloo man who fell into the Cedar River while fishing last week, has died at a local hospital.

41 year old Anthony “Tony” Romero was fishing on the Cedar River last Thursday, April 13th, near the Ice House Museum in Cedar Falls, when he slipped on a large rock and fell in.

Romero apparently became unconscious, and was caught in the strong current of the river.

Emergency workers responded, and a Cedar Falls Police officer was able to pull Romero out.

Romero was taken to Sartori Hospital, where he reportedly died on Sunday (April 16).
