Fire Destroys Area Historic Church

CANTON, Minn. (AP) — Fire has destroyed a historic church in Fillmore County.

Henrytown Lutheran Church between Harmony and Canton is described as a total loss. Harmony Assistant Fire Chief Bill Hanlon says about 40 firefighters worked the blaze, but by the time they arrived at the church about 3 a.m. Thursday it was too late to save it. A state fire marshal arrived at the scene to begin investigating a cause.

Doris McCabe has been a member of the church for about 50 years. She says the structure was built in the late 1800s.

Fillmore County Commissioner Marc Prestby said the old, country church was in a beautiful setting, surrounded by pines.
