The Waterloo Black Hawks have acquired goaltender Evan Fear from the Green Bay Gamblers in a deal announced on Thursday.

The 19-year-old has been a three-time winner of the United States Hockey League’s "Goaltender of the Week" award in 2018/19, and the Black Hawks have first-hand experience seeing Fear at his best. On October 13th, he became the first of just four visiting goaltenders so far this season to leave Young Arena with a victory, making 37 saves in a 5-4 Green Bay overtime win. Nearly a month later, Waterloo edged Fear and the Gamblers 3-2 in overtime at Green Bay’s Brown County Arena. However, Fear made 48 saves in that game, tied for the most in one game by a USHL net-minder this season.

Overall, Fear went 10-9-4 in 24 appearances for the Gamblers, including two shutouts. The Quinnipiac recruit delivered a 3.33 goals-against mark while stopping 89.9 percent of the shots he faced. There have been four instances this season in which Fear has made 40 or more saves, including both of his shutouts.

Fear was also a member of the Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2016/17, going 5-4-3 during 14 games. During the season in between, he was in net for the Springfield Jr. Blues of the North American Hockey League.

Originally from Winnetka, Illinois, Fear played midget hockey in the Chicago Mission organization, a program with which the Black Hawks have many current or recent ties via players including Wyatt Schingoethe, Jack Drury, Hunter Lellig, and Vinnie Hinostroza.

In exchange for Fear, the Gamblers received a draft pick and affiliate defenseman Mason Lohrei.

Fear will make his home debut in a Black Hawks uniform this Saturday night at 7:05, when Waterloo battles the Sioux Falls Stampede in Young Arena. For tickets, call the box office, 319-232-3444.
