Residents in and around Shell Rock may notice an influx of emergency vehicles in the area early this evening, when authorities conduct an emergency response drill.

The exercise is put together by the Butler County Emergency Management Agency, and will be held near the Flint Hills Resources Shell Rock ethanol plant, at about 6pm.

The drill will similate a tanker truck rollover and fire, on the grounds of the ethanol plant. 80 personnel from several local emergency response units will participate.

Among the agencies that will take part, include the Waterloo Hazmat unit, Iowa Northern Railroad, Butler County Fire and EMS, and Flint Hills Resources.

The drill is funded through a federal grant program.
