A Bald Eagle found seriously injured in Northeast Iowa, is getting much needed medical attention.

The eagle was found Wednesday morning (Feb. 22) at about 7:30am, just east of Oelwein, along a county road.

A raccoon carcass was found nearby, having conservation officials speculating that the eagle was feeding on the road kill when it was also hit by a vehicle.

A local resident found the bird with the major injuries, and contacted Buchanan County Conservation officers. The staff was able to get the eagle to Wildthunder Rehabilitation in Independence, for veterinary care.

The eagle was then transferred to a special facility in western Iowa for evaluation and possible rehabilitation.
