After a pair of losses to nationally-ranked opponents, the Upper Iowa football team looks to get back in the win column when the Peacocks host Concordia-St. Paul for their annual Homecoming game on Saturday (Oct. 10, 2015).

Upper Iowa (3-2 NSIC, 0-1 South) is seeking its second win in the 10-game series, and history suggests it will be a competitive battle. Three of the last four meetings have been decided by four points or less, including last season's 37-34 overtime victory by the Golden Bears in St. Paul, Minn.

Concordia (1-4 NSIC, 0-1 South) and Upper Iowa have played every year since the Peacocks joined the Northern Sun Conference in 2006. The Golden Bears won the first seven meetings before UIU’s first win in the series, 28-24, in Fayette in 2013.

Overall In the series, Concordia has had four of its eight wins decided by three points or less and three wins decided by 27, 49 and 29 points. In Upper Iowa’s lone win, Cordordia was inside the Peacocks' 10-yard-line at the end of the game.

For Upper Iowa to win its Homecoming game, the defensive unit will need to set the tone early. The Golden Bears have yet to put points on the scoreboard in the first quarter this season.

Offensive consistency will also be a factor for the Peacocks. Two weeks ago, an inefficient first half cost Upper Iowa in a 28-24 setback at No. 25 Minnesota-Duluth. Last week, Upper Iowa owned a 10-7 lead at halftime, but struggled in the second half of a 38-10 loss to top-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato.

Like Upper Iowa, the Golden Bears have struggled in their last two games, being outscored 98-14 in consecutive losses to Bemidji State and Winona State.

Both teams enter Saturday's contest searching to find success on the ground to balance their respective offenses. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. at Harms-Eischeid Stadium in Fayette.
