Two goals in the final six minutes allowed the Waterloo Black Hawks to escape from L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon with a 5-4 road win against the Lumberjacks on Friday (Dec 1, 2017).

The Black Hawks scored on the games opening shift. Solag Bakich cut across the slot to slip in a backhander to score the games first goal of the night. The Waterloo edge lasted about eight-and-a-half minutes before Muskegon's Bray Crowder fired in a shot from the left point.

During a penalty kill, Jack Drury set up Ben Copeland on a two-one-one rush; Copeland’s shot crossed the goal line after deflecting off Karki’s glove. That marks the third straight game with a shorthanded goal in as many games.

In the middle of the second period, Jackson Cates capitalized on the rebound of Mason Palmer’s shot from the left point.

The Lumberjacks stormed back scoring the next three goals to take a 4-3 lead. A Michael Ferrandino’s shot was redirected by Garrett Klee to tie the game for Waterloo. Klee then set up Matej Blumel for the game-winner on a power play with 2:15 left to play in regulation. His pass across the top of the crease connected with Matej Blumel, who redirected it up under the crossbar.

Saturday, the Black Hawks visit the Chicago Steel to conclude a sequence of seven consecutive games against opponents from the USHL Eastern Conference. Waterloo returns home for two games December 8 & 9 at Young Arena.
