Iowa High School Football Week Seven Preview
Week seven of the Iowa high school football season features a marquee match-up of rated area teams on Friday night (Oct. 9, 2015).
The battle for supremacy in Class-1A, District 4 takes center stage when second-ranked Dike-New Hartford (6-0, 3-0) travels to Calmar for a showdown with No. 7 South Winneshiek (5-1, 3-0). The winner takes sole possession of first-place in the hunt for a No. 1 playoff seed.
Friday's match-up is only the second regular-season meeting between the two teams and the fourth overall in the series. Dike-New Hartford won last year's district game 28-19, then fell to Warriors 34-7 in the Class-1A state semifinals. The teams first met in the quarterfinals of the 2013 playoffs, a game the Wolverines won 36-17.
Another spotlight game takes place in Denver, where the sixth-ranked Cyclones (5-1, 3-0) host Grundy Center (4-2, 3-0) in a battle that features the co-leaders of Class-A, District 4. With a win, Denver -- a state semifinalist in 2014 -- would take a major step toward locking up its first district title since 2000. A victory by Grundy Center sets up a showdown for the district crown next week, when the Spartans host rival Gladbrook-Reinbeck.
There are two key games involving area eight-player teams Friday night. Second-ranked Don Bosco (4-0, 3-0) hosts District 5 co-leader Colo-Nesco (6-0, 3-0) and No. 8 Janesville (5-0, 3-0) travels to Northwood-Kensett (5-1, 3-0) looking to take sole possession of first place in District 3.
With two weeks remaining in the 2015 regular season, six area teams remain undefeated. Five are still seeking their first victory.
