Wacha's march to the VDTC win is 100-percent thanks to his diehard fans. The driver known as the "Mad Hatter" was added to the field thanks to the preliminary round. The initial list of competitors was made up of national, regional, state, and track champions. A few more names were added based on Jeff Brog's All Iowa Points (PositivelyRacing.com's).

Before the first round of voting began, the preliminary round allowed fans to nominate drivers to be added to the list. The VDTC Committee evaluated each name before adding them to the list, and Wacha was one of those last minute additions.

"I've got some awesome fans out there," Wacha said during the VDTC Post Race show. "It's pretty cool to have good fans like that."

Team 45 was not happy how their 2015 dirt track racing season started, so they put even more time into the car. The hard work paid off. The No. 45 green machine started running up front, and Wacha was able to grab a few wins along the way. It put him into contention for the Benton County Speedway Hobby Stock track championship, but a few late season wrecks erased the team's chances on that championship.

"We were all bummed," Wacha remembered. "But you have to keep plugging away to get somewhere, so we keep on plugging away."

In retrospect, Wacha admitted it helped pull the team together, and it forced them to focus that much more on the car.

In 2016, Team 45's primary focus will be on winning the Benton County Speedway Hobby Stock track championship. They will also hit a few specials at Independence Motor Speedway, Marshalltown Speedway, Boone Speedway, and a few other specials.
