Providing the Waterloo Black Hawks with steady defense and timely offense during two victories against the Lincoln Stars, Mikey Anderson was selected as the United States Hockey League’s CCM Defenseman of the Week on Monday.

Anderson scored the first goal of the Hawks’ successful weekend just moments after a power play had ended in the opening period Thursday night. He added two assists in that game – one shorthanded – and was +3. The Hawks claimed the road win by a 5-2 final.

Saturday in a rematch at Young Arena, Anderson contributed another shorthanded assist on a first period Kevin Charyszyn goal which stood up as the game-winner. The Hawks prevailed 2-0. With a +1 differential, Anderson ended the weekend with four points and a +4 mark.

The 17-year-old Minnesota-Duluth recruit now has five points through five games. The total ties him as the USHL’s leading defensive scorer through three weeks of the 2016/17 season. As a rookie last winter, Anderson tallied a goal and 15 assists during 57 regular season appearances.

The selection of Anderson as Defenseman of the Week follows the choice of Robbie Beydoun as the league’s Goaltender of the Week last Monday.
