The Waterloo Black Hawks 2016-2017 home opener is set for this Saturday (Oct. 8, 2016) at Young Arena. There will be lots of prizes, Pokemon (Go) fun, a video game challenge, and more.

Pokemon Go players will take over Party Town during the Waterloo Black Hawks’ first home game of the 2016/17 season this Saturday night against the Lincoln Stars.

With lures in place, expect some of the game’s rarest characters to find their way onto phone screens. Players who capture the hardest-to-find creatures will have the chance to win prizes. Whether fans have played the mobile game or not, everyone can get a picture with Pikachu. The Pokemon favorite will meet fans on the concourse throughout the evening.

And young PokemonGo players – along with all kids age 12 and under – will get the best deal of the night with kids tickets for just $5. Bring the whole family to the game and make the most of this special offer.

In the “fun for everyone” department, fans will enjoy all of the following:

  • The first 2,000 fans in attendance will take home a 2016/17 Black Hawks magnetic schedule, presented by Rockets La Porte City Bakery and 1650 The Fan.
  • Being on the ice is tough, but being on the ice in a knockerball is even tougher. Watch the mayhem at intermission as fans compete in an on-ice contest while contained in these oversized bubbles.
  • Try your hand at hockey on a screen with Gameliner. The mobile gaming service will be camping out in the Young Arena parking lot with the chance to take on your friends playing your favorite video games.
  • The Black Hawks recognize all of the volunteers who helped the Cedar Valley though the floods of 2016. Chris Smith, who organized sandbagging efforts in one Waterloo neighborhood, will drop the ceremonial first puck after introductions.

Don’t forget that Saturday is a College Night; tickets for all college students are just $7 when purchased in advance or $8 on game day.

And no one should watch hockey on an empty stomach! Black Hawks season ticket holders won’t have to worry about that as they enjoy a free pregame meal served during an exclusive tailgate party, thanks to Texas Roadhouse. Bring your appetite from 4:30 to 6!
