The city of Oelwein is getting closer to having just one garbage hauler for the residential community.

The proposed single-hauler plan is for residential customers only, and will not affect businesses.

The Oelwein City Council held a work session on the topic, following this week's regular meeting. The council will take the initial vote on the issue at the next regular meeting, on September 11th. If the contract is satisfactory, a final vote will take place in the weeks to come.

Currently, the city has offers from 2 garbage haulers: Waste Management and Black Hawk Waste.

Residential customers would be charged for the weekly pickup on their monthly city utility bill.

Residential customers will have an option of using a 90 gallon waste container or 60 gallon for trash and recycling.
