Charges Pending in Highway 150 Semi/Pickup Accident

The Buchanan County Sheriff continues to investigate a weekend traffic accident near Hazleton, involving a pickup and a semi.
It happened at about 6:45am Saturday (Dec. 3) on Highway 150, south of Hazleton.

A northbound pickup driven by Nicole Long of Independence, crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with an oncoming semi driven by David Sogard of Jewell.

Long's pickup then rolled onto it's side in the roadway. Long had to be extricated from the pickup; she was flown to a hospital in Waterloo with unspecified injuries. There was no word on her condition.

Highway 150 was shut down to traffic for over an hour, until the scene could be cleared.

The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Hazleton Fire Department, Oelwein Fire Department, Oelwein Mercy Ambulance Service, AirCare and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement.
