Authorities have now charged seven local juveniles with damaging tombstones in an historic cemetery.

According to Oelwein police, the seven, all from Oelwein, have been referred to juvenile court services for criminal mischief, second degree.

The vandalism was reported to police on September 9th. Numerous tombstones in Oakdale cemetery, some belonging to the Oelwein family, were pushed over and broken. Damages were estimated at $4,200.

Those charged are identified as:
14 year old Alexander Frazer, 13 year old Ian Morgan, 15 year old Aaron Eickhoff junior, 16 year old Nicholas Eickhoff, 13 year old Breeya Moritz, 12 year old Harley Stone, and 14 year old Brandon Fox, all of Oelwein.

The charge is a class "D" felony.

Oelwein Police Chief Jeremy Logan stated, "while we take all criminal mischief cases seriously, it is especially disheartening when damage is done to grave sites."
