Happy Birthday Lady Liberty!
WHAT: The Statue of Liberty is turning 128 on Tuesday, October 28, and EarthCam’s live streaming and megapixel webcams provide a way for anyone to celebrate with a trip to the Monument. The ongoing partnership between EarthCam, the National Park Service and the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. aims to educate the public about the Statue of Liberty while letting them view it from several unique angles.
WHY: Lady Liberty has been a universal symbol of freedom and democracy since France gave it to the United States on October 28, 1886. EarthCam’s cameras invite the world to see the statue from key locations – including the torch, which has been closed to the public since 1916.
HOW: Travel to the top of Lady Liberty’s torch for a view of Lower Manhattan, use the CrownCam to take a “Statue Selfie” and watch as ships pass by with the HarborCam at http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/statueofliberty/.
