Car Burns After NE Iowa Accident

An Independence man is being charged with an accident in which his car entered a ditch, and burned up when he tried to get it out.

Shortly after 5pm Friday, the Fayette County Sheriff got a call that a car was on fire, near the intersection of Empire Road and 157th street, just northwest of Wadena.

A car driven by 31 year old Chad King had been westbound on 157th, when he lost control, and the car went off the road.

King tried to drive the 1997 Buick Park Avenue out of the ditch, but it caught fire. He was able to escape the vehicle unharmed, but the car was totaled.

King has been charged with failure to maintain control, no proof of insurance, and having an open container of alcohol in the car.

The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by the Wadena Fire Department.
