Cale Morris turned away all 25 Des Moines Buccaneers shots on goal Saturday, January 30, 2015, and the the Waterloo Black Hawks celebrated a 4-0 victory in front of the largest crowd of the season at Young Arena.

The sellout audience of 3,468 went wild during Morris’ best sequence of the night with 10:39 remaining in regulation. During a Buccaneer power play, the Waterloo goalie fought off a Patrick Grasso chance from between the hash marks, then snared an almost immediate follow up wrister by Ryan Dmowski, preserving a 3-0 lead the Hawks had established during the second period.

After a goal-less first, the score was going to be 1-0 near the midpoint of regulation, although it was not clear which team would be ahead. A Des Moines shot by Corey Schueneman went off the crossbar and bounced away approximately a minute before Max Coatta redirected Henrik Rommel’s shot into the net on the other side of the ice at 9:21. After a long review, the officials determined that Schueneman’s shot had not gone across the goal line, and therefore Coatta’s goal stood.

Waterloo followed up with a second marker less than a minute after taking the lead. With his toes just outside the crease, Brock Boeser jammed the rebound of a Tyler Sheehy shot between the pads of Ryan Ruck. From a similar area, Ronnie Hein scored in similar fashion at 17:39, putting back the rebound of a Larry Jungwirth chance to make the score 3-0.

Tempers flared as teams were headed to the dressing room at the end of the second, leading to a host of penalties going to the third. The fracas yielded four misconducts or ejections and 70 minutes in penalties.

After killing three third period Des Moines power plays, Waterloo added one more goal with 42.1 seconds left in regulation. Boeser redirected Sheehy’s shot-pass into an open side after Waterloo had swiped a clearing attempt.
