Sometimes when the weather gets rough, we all need a little help, here and there.

Such was the case for an unfortunate beaver in Winneshiek County.

Someone had come upon a beaver along the banks of the Upper Iowa River in Decorah. The beaver was apparently frozen on one side of his body to a piece of ice, and pinned by another large piece of ice on the other side of his body.

Decorah Police were called to the scene to help the critter out of his (or her) predicament.

The officer carefully cleared the ice from the beaver's frozen legs, then moved the ice that had him pinned to the ground.

The beaver appeared to be exhausted from his ordeal, so his rescuers guided it away from the river, so that it may rest before it attempted to swim away.
