A Northeast Iowa resident has been put in jail after leading authorities on a short chase.


At about 2am Sunday (Sept. 3), a Fayette County deputy tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation. After a short pursuit, the driver finally pulled over.
The suspect, 31 year old Joseph Sodoma of West Union, was taken into custody on charges of Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense, Eluding, Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia, and Speeding. Sodoma was held in the Fayette County jail until his initial court appearance.

A Fayette motorist faces an illegal driving charge. Shortly after 12:30pm Sunday, 22 year old Christian Opperman was arrested for Driving While his License is Suspended. He was held until his court appearance.

And the Fayette County Sheriff responded to an accident involving a deer late Friday night (Sept. 1), northeast of Sumner. 21 year old Christian Nichols of Sumner was driving east on 170th Street, when a deer entered the roadway, and Nicols lost control. The car entered the ditch and rolled onto it's top. No injuries were reported, but there was $4,500 in damage to the car. The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by the Sumner Fire and Rescue, Sumner Ambulance, and Fayette County Conservation.
