Authorities have identified a Southeast Minnesota man who died in a two-vehicle accident between Marquette, Iowa, and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

It happened at about 9am Monday (Nov. 6) on Highway 18, that spans the Mississippi River between the two states.

63 year old Robert Wiemerslage of Spring Grove, Minnesota, was driving the semi, when he slumped over into the lap of his wife, 65 year old Mary Wiemerslage.

The semi then drifted over the center line and collided head-on with a pickup driven by 49 year old Raul Negron of Cedar Rapids.

The semi pushed the pickup approximately 300 yards before it stopped.

Wiemerslage was pronounced dead at the Prairie du Chien hospital; his wife was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Negron had to be extricated from his pickup; he was transferred to a LaCrosse hospital for treatment.

Local law enforcement had to shut the highway down for about an hour to clear the wreckage.
