Apple Inc. Will Build A $1.375 Billion Data Center In Iowa

Apple Inc. is going to be building two new data centers in Waukee, Iowa worth $1.375 billion.

Apple Inc. will purchase 2,000 acres 20 miles west of Des Moines in Waukee, to build two data centers.  The company will receive $19.65 million investment tax credit for creating 50 jobs. It is expected that the project will create 550 jobs in construction and operation but did not specify how many jobs it would create for the long term.

Apple will also contribute $100 million to a "public improvement fund." With that money, the proposal is to build a brand new youth sports complex that will be open to the public.

Iowa will join California, Oregon, Nevada, and North Carolina to host these data centers. It sounds like the main focus of the Iowa data center is to backup the data of the Apple App Store.

$620 million will go toward construction. $600 million on computer equipment. $45 million going toward other equipment.
